Homework: Not just for Kids! Balancing work and home....

Recently a client asked:
“Is there anything I can do at home to improve my business?

One definitely will affect the other.  Bad habits we have at home may spill over into our work place.  That is why, no matter where you work or what you do for a living you will see the same negative affects happen over and over again until you correct the problem at home and work.  So is it important to enhance both your home and your office?

ABSOLUTELY!

In fact, if you make a correction at home and see no results, look at your office.  The reverse also applies, if you make a correction at work and see no results, review your home for areas that need improvement.

Your home should be your sanctuary away from the stresses of the world, but there are certain things you can do to your home to improve your work environment. I have listed three quick and simple tips that anyone can use at home to improve their business.

1.  Improve your front door AND the door you use to enter the home (for example the door from the garage).  Make sure both entryways are clean and clear of clutter and the first thing you see when you enter your home is welcoming and pleasant (picture of family, flowers etc).

2.  If you are trying to increase clientele or draw more customers to your store locate the Relationship area of your home using the 8 Aspect map.  Enhance this area with items showing abundance.  Pictures with a lot of happy people, a large vase of silk or fresh flowers, a coin bowl (see below) placed in this location will be very effective.  If you choose to place a coin bowl in this location you should place your business card under the coins to enhance your relationship with your business.

3.  Locate the Prosperity and Career area using the 8 Aspect map, of your home and enhance with symbolism of wealth and success.  The most effective tool is the coin bowl.  Place a coin bowl in both these locations where you see them everyday and feed them everyday.  When the bowl is full, ‘cash out’ and use the money, leaving some behind as ‘seed’ money.

Although I generally do not recommend bringing work into the home, there is nothing wrong with bringing home into the work.   To remind yourself of the sanctuary you have created at home, bring a small trinket from your home to place on your desk.  This can be a picture of your family or your pet, a collectable, a future personal goal, anything that reminds you of home/family/vacation.

Personally, I have a picture of a couple snorkeling in the Caribbean to remind me of my goal of doing this some day.  You do not need to clutter your desk with these items.  This will only distract you from work that needs to be done.  One simple item will do the trick.
The recommendations given above are general and can be used by everyone.  It is important that if you have a specific concern (such as finding a new job, at home office, or promotion) that additional, more precise enhancements should be use.  If you have a specific concern please feel free to contact me at elyssa@sandiegointuitiveliving.com.   I look forward to hearing from you.
